Grief: The Extension of Love & Gateway to Liberation
One of my dearest friends, whom I love deeply, has been such a motivating force in my journey of becoming. This year and especially this week, I’ve been met with a strong sense of faithful conviction since Jordan transitioned and became an ancestor this time last year. He was one of my biggest motivators to follow my dreams of traveling and cultivating community, despite the weight of my fears.
We both dreamed of traveling the world and connecting with people and ways of being beyond what we knew. While working together he’d search for flights, encouraging me to book a trip with him. Whether it was camping outside for Beychella or eating endless amounts of pasta in Italy, he lived to envision and pursue a life where his gifts, dreams and desires were actualized through adventure. This passion came to no surprise when he started his own travel consulting business, Le Flâneur Noir.
As I revisit the captivating and peaceful moments captured in the photographs of my recent trip to Greece, I become filled with admiration and gratitude. God has continued to bless me with life’s greatest gift - friendship. I am confident that The Creator orchestrated the uniting of my path with Jordan’s with intention and purpose. He taught me so much by simply existing as his authentic self and treating every room he walked into like God sent him, assured of his worth and by extension, the value of his presence. Jordan exemplified speaking Truth to Power conspicuously in all the days I shared with him. He believed that we as Black people, are our ancestors’ wildest dreams and he carried that honor from his shoulders, to his soul, outwardly onto others. He was a historian at heart, leading so many young people, friends, and family with this guiding principle - always reminding us of the intergenerational power and courage within us, despite what the world told us to believe.
I felt called to share my appreciation for Jordan and the treasures he’s shared with me both in the physical and spiritual. With Jordan’s blessing I have learned to enjoy being the main character in my life and redirect the pouring of unconditional love inward, before pouring outward. Since his transition I made a commitment take the pilot seat to creating a joyous, nourishing and passionate life by tending to my health and spirit with Grace. I am certain that Jordan is supporting me on the journey of aligning with the Highest version of Losa, I’m destined to be. I know he wouldn’t want it any other way and that this is the first step to honoring his legacy. Because God’s offering of Jordan’s friendship and spiritual connection, I’ve experienced a new meaning of faith and unconditional love. Grief never ends, but love transcends space, time and matter.
